I have recently passed my PPL and have nothing but praise for all the team at AirFirst. Christabelle, Katy and Emma do a fantastic job organising everything needed with running a busy flying school and club (although even they have limited powers over British weather!!) and the instructors are all fantastic. I started learning just over a year ago and felt very proud to have passed my skills test recently but really can’t thank all the team enough for making it happen. There is a very friendly atmosphere and it really does feel like a club while having a very professional approach to flying. Have no hesitation to recommending AirFirst to anybody considering flying.

An absolutely fantastic experience from a professional and courteous flying club. I have built up numerous hours in various aircraft and flight training schools from various counties. But due to financial reasons, cannot commit to the NPPL/PPL package. So it’s trial flights to keep the ‘bug’ at bay.

This was my first flight with Air First (Blackbushe School of Flying), and my instructor did not make me ‘suck eggs’ in which I was able to get the most out of my trial flight and was even able to take the wife up. Albeit a few ropey landings on my part, it was a fantastic opportunity to see the South East counties as well as getting some major cobwebs blown off in the trusty PA28.

I would highly recommend Air First as your first port of call whatever your flying experience. You will get the most out of your money and will thoroughly enjoy what you set out to achieve from your lesson.

I’ve been flying with Air First with the hope to complete my PPL. I have been impressed with how professional and well organised the school are. It is also a really friendly place to be and I’ve met so many fun people who are enthusiastic about flying. The instructors, students and opps staff are always there to offer advice and support you as you go through the stages of your licence. Blackbushe, as an aerodrome, is also a great place to learn. It has a long and wide runway for light aircraft, it is situated near the London TMA, Odiham and Farnborough so you experience and become aware of all sorts of traffic, radiotelephony and airspace restrictions from early on in your flying, ensuring you are reasonably confident when you go solo. To summarise in two words, Air First is Amazing and Friendly :)

I cannot thank Chris enough for the kindness she showed both my husband and daughter when both became ill and were unable to fly. Last Sunday we finally got to meet Chris in person she was both welcoming and knowledgeable. In fact every one that we met were incredibly nice people. We were introduced to James he was our pilot for the day. He was warm witty and brilliant at getting the messages across. In fact he even managed to convince a nervous flyer like me that my daughter and husband were in safe hands.
My daughter never stopped smiling from the time she met Chris James and the team until we got home and she retold the story to the family. My husband loved the experience and is hoping to go again soon.
I cannot praise this team highly enough they are first class.

I had wanted to fly since I was a child but for many reasons had not managed it. That all changed after having a trial lesson with Blackbushe School of flying. I thought I would be too old but the staff at Air First genuinely consider age as just a number with the result that I passed my NPPL skills test 1 week after my 70th. birthday.
The team at Blackbushe, led by Christabelle, are all very professional and genuine enthusiasts which makes flying with them so enjoyable.
I now hire from the school allowing me to pass on my love of flying to friends and family. Another aspect of Blackbushe School of Flying that I really enjoy is the flyaways. So far, on school trips, I have circled the UK (Caernarfon, Newtownards, over Scotland to Ronaldsway and return), flown across Europe to Poland, San Sebastian and Venice as well as day tips to Le Touquet, the Isle of Scilly, and others always with a friendly group of other School members.
I would strongly recommend Blackbushe School of Flying to anyone who wants to learn to fly and enjoy the experience. Remember age is no barrier old or young.

I first came to Blackbushe about five years ago as a lady in my 50’s to learn to fly. If someone had told me then that I would actually achieve that aim and be able to hire an aircraft, participate in flying school trips, including an epic trip to Venice and back I would never have believed it. When I was learning to fly and then after obtaining my licence, I have been hugely grateful to the whole team for all their professionalism and encouragement. In the moments of self-doubt (of which there have been many), the instructors and Ops team have been so supportive.
If you are looking for an excellent, friendly and professionally run flying school where the team go way beyond the extra mile, then look no further than Blackbushe. The vibe is friendly and welcoming whether you are training, hiring, asking for advice or just popping in for a cup of tea and a natter. Great place, excellent aircraft, superb people – I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I was in a pretty slow period of my life with not a lot going on back in 2008 when I decided to go for a trial lesson at Blackbushe airport. At the time the school was run by Cabair but still managed by the lovely Christabelle. It was almost a month to the day later that I signed up to do my PPL with the school. It was the best thing I have ever done. Nothing can prepare you for that first time you take off on your own and you glance over to the empty right hand seat. That is truly a moment where you feel at your most alive.

The school has since been bought by Chris and she is the lifeblood of this little organisation just celebrating it’s third birthday. She offers people the opportunity to step away from the daily stresses of office life or just life in general and be truly free leaving it all behind. It is also a very ambitions school with eyes set on a bright future. They have just taken delivery of a newly painted PA28 kitted out with IR equipment to allow IR rating training.

All the other staff and instructors at the school are world class, I would recommend flying with all of them. I may not yet have flown with James Good but I just know it will be another valuable experience and look forward to the day I do. Clare does an amazing job at keeping the place ticking like a Swiss watch when they are very busy and accommodates requests very professionally, a true asset to the school.

If you are stuck in a rut and need a challenge in life, I cannot recommend flying highly enough and certainly this is the school to do it in. Whether you are 14 with dreams of being a commercial pilot or 80 looking for adventure, just do it!

I have been a hirer from Air First for the last few years. The club is simply outstanding offering hirers such as myself a highly professional, friendly, accommodating service hand in hand with an excellent range and choice of high quality, superbly maintained aircraft.

Additionally, Christabelle and the whole Air First team work tirelessly to ensure the vitality of the club building relationships between members by way of activities, flyouts and family events throughout the year.

I have no hesitation in recommending Air First to hirers and students alike.

Along with everyone else who has already reviewed Air First/ Blackbushe School of Flying, I would like to also say how proud I am to be a member of the flying school. Their friendly, welcoming approach in my opinion makes them the best flying school around! Over the last five years, I have been a hirer and the occasional helper! They say that you lead from the top down, and Owner/Operations Manager Chris’ kind and friendly personality is reflected down through the ranks which I believe gives Air First its warm family feel. It is a shame that there is not the option to give them a higher rating as it would be well deserved!!

I completed my PPL with the school in October 2012 after flying for roughly a year. I had commitments of full time college ate the same time as trying to do my license so it was very difficult to study for exams and fit flights in. All the staff at the school were very helpful and really helped me through the course. Fast forward to current day I am still flying with the school and everyone is just as professional yet easy to speak to and get along with as they have always been. I highly recommend the school to anyone around my age (20) as you will feel relaxed around the staff and they will help you through everything

There are no shortage of flying schools in the southeast. So I wanted to make sure I flew with a school which met my needs. I had a secondary requirement to fund a scholarship to NPPL. I found that Blackbushe School of Flying met both these requirements, sending a younger flyer on his way through NPPL training, and my requirements for an Instructor. I have found all my dealings through the School to be highly professional, and the level of instruction to be exceedingly high. I would have no hesitation in recommending Blackbushe School of Flying [Air First] for initial NPPL training through to advanced ratings.

Having only recently begun my PPL, I’ve found Air First ( Blackbushe School of Flying ) to be absolutely fantastic. I shopped around for quite a while before choosing them, and I’m very glad that I did. I’d recommend the school to anybody looking to begin or further their flying careers.

A lovely friendly flying club with a family atmosphere. I have been a client since 2009 when I passed my PPL and subsequently, IMC rating. I have since clocked up some 300 hours of flying, and many of these have been through the hiring of Airfirst’s trusty fleet.

Christabelle runs the business because she lives and breathes aviation and loves people. Airfirst enjoys some of the very best instructors who are very knowledgeable and professional, while applying a good deal of advice, common sense and practicality to the discipline of piloting a light aircraft.

The club fosters and encourages pilots to share flying and trips and organsises some excellent outings into the depths of Europe and the UK.

Airfirst has a lovely selection of aircraft from complex to the trusted PA-28s, and, more recently, has added to its fleet, a beautiful brand new PS-28 Cruiser, which is a delight to fly.

I would not hesitate to recommend Airfirst. Call in and you won’t look back.

I’ve been learning to fly with Airfirst Blackbushe School of Flying in hope of achieving my PPL. It has been the best experience of my life, and I couldn’t recommend any greater flying school to learn with if you’re interested. From the way we are taught practically and with briefings before and after flight, it makes the most of every moment in the sky. Every Instructor is absolutely fantastic and has a wealth of experience, endless patience and infectious enthusiasm – with my particular thanks to Christabelle (Owner) James and Kevin (Instructors) Steve (Examiner) and Katie, Emma and Clare (Operations)- you have all gone above and beyond in helping me to achieve my dream -thank you!

The school is very professionally run and yet has a much appreciated warm and intimate feel where each student ( and anxious parent) is made to feel as though they are the only one. Everyone has gone above and beyond in their individual roles in supporting my son achieve his dream and we are so grateful that he has had the privilege of training with you all. When I first thought about learning to fly. I went to another flying school which will remain nameless. My wife had purchased a trial lesson for me. I turned up for my trial lesson, and once airborne, I don’t think we flew straight and level for more than about 30 seconds. Needless to say, when we finally landed I felt so sick, I had to lay down in the car for an hour before I could drive home. I was devastated.
The next day I contacted the Blackbushe School of Flying and explained what had happened. They were so friendly and understanding, so I arranged another trial lesson. The rest is history, I now have my PPL and would like to thank them for all of their help and understanding. The staff are very friendly and helpful. And nothing is too much for them. They made my flying training very enjoyable and relaxing. I would highly recommend the Blackbushe School of Flying.

Well it all started on Sept 11th 2013 when I was given a trial lesson for my birthday. I turned up at Blackbushe and met with Kevin who would be my instructor for the trial flight. We took off and with his calm unflinching manner, asked me to take the controls gently, anyway I was hooked from that moment. On the second trial lesson if there wasn’t a cross wind, I think Kevin might have let me land but this is the good thing about the school, they will judge you on your merits, rather than experience.
Since then I have now qualified as a PPL and I still fly with Blackbushe. Nothing is ever too much for them, they can rearrange flights to suit you and if you’re flexible, it can help with their planning too and all is kept informed. You get to know each and everyone of them and they are more than happy to talk through anything with you, even if isn’t about flying!!
They couldn’t help enough and as a newly qualified PPL, I am still getting much needed good advice. They always act very professional and have your and other pilots safety at the forefront of their mind. I highly recommend recommend Blackbushe Flying School!!

My Great Aunt decided that, for her 90th birthday, she’d like to fly in a small aeroplane. I was worried at first that no one would be willing to take her up, but the staff at Blackbushe School of Flying were fantastic. They were very welcoming and accommodating, and looked after her from the first time they met her: they offered us the opportunity to make sure she could get in to the aeroplane comfortably before we bought the lesson for her, and didn’t rush her at any time then or on the day. Steve, the pilot, was fantastic, and encouraged her to take the controls once in the air! I would recommend them to anyone.

I have been flying with AirFirst since 2011. They have taken me from the first, tentative stages of PPL training through IMC to organised cross channel trips and most recently a very exciting expedition back from Venice to Blackbushe.

This is a privately run club where a “family atmosphere” very much pervades. All involved genuinely care about training/encouraging students to make the most of the opportunities that aviation can bring. The formal training is professionally delivered, but there is a great social aspect to AirFirst which makes it fun too.

This is evident through all contact with the club: the operations team always go the extra mile to ensure aircraft availability, the instructors are definately not hour building young bucks – quality training is the priority, and, there is a very active programme of organised trips which are fantastic for new PPLs to build experience and confidence.

For me, the net effect of all this is that my flying has come a very long way in a relatively short period of time. It has been great fun and I don’t see how I could have fared better anywhere else.

A great flying club with lots of social banter and laughs. It is professionally run with fantastic prices, modern reliable planes but maintains that family run atmosphere which gives it a warmth the moment you enter their ultra modern reception. Christabelle the gorgeous, precious mother and owner genuinely loves her job and ensures everyone is well cared for. Her objective is quite simply to give excellent value for money and to offer each customer an experience that will make him/her come again and again. Her equally precious beautiful daughter Emma is the ultimate in ensuring her mothers objectives are carried out in the best possible way. The pair make a great team. You just know Emma loves her life !

Worthy of a mention are Claire and Katie who always provide a warm welcome and make sure the planes are available and ensure that each visitor is aware of all the forthcoming visits and fly-aways so that no one is left out. I would definitely recommend to join their regular e-newsletter. The instructors, who are magnificent also, are instructed to make sure the “Air First” experience is duplicated in the P1 seat so that the student/pilot is guaranteed Christabelles vision and they will return time and time again. The instructors are the ones you really want to fly with, they are not the journeyman type who is just instructing for their own hour building purposes. The guys at this school are professional, there because they want to be, there because they want to teach. Kevin is worthy of a mention, a fantastic man and a great teacher.

I have been flying for almost 30 years and have had the benefit of flying to zillions of airfields and experiencing dozens and dozens of flying schools, not one of them can come anywhere this school. Blackbushe School of Flying is the ultimate in customer satisfaction. I certainly have found the best and will not fly from any other club – there is simply no need !!. Enjoy the experience

Having just searched the area for a proper flying school to cater for my proposed needs , I found what I thought to be the most ideal place. My thoughts were indeed, correct.

I feel this club undertook the trial flight perfectly well and made me feel at home and allayed any fears I had. Thoroughly explaining the principles of flight by not rushing the pre flight brief. I learnt so much even before I stepped into the aeroplane. After the flight was completed ( I had the controls most of the time), I enjoyed a post flight debrief over a much deserved coffee to go over the experience and consolidate what I learnt.

The experience has left me with the desire to learn to fly and I can’t wait to start to earn my wings with this outfit …..

The first aircraft I flew, was at Blackbushe in 2005. The school was Cabair at the time and I had three trial flights to get a feel and then I joined Lasham to gain my NPPL in their motor glider. A few years later I returned with interest in maturing my licence and converting to the PPL. The school was now called Airfirst (Blackbushe school of flying) they took in my intreasts and I left with a handful of training syllabuses and hopes for the future! Not so long after I had booked in for a trial flight with Jonathan in G-EVTO, a PA28 I was going to spend a lot of time in. I was hooked. The first thing I noticed was how friendly and approachable the staff were. The school prides itself on being one big happy family and every effort is made to make you part of it. Christabelle (Mum!) And her team will bend over backwards to accommodate your needs and get you solo and beyond! Secondly is the professionalism of the instructors, all of which are down to earth and equipped with a good sense of humour and a wealth of knowledge. You will get a lot out of your lessons, even a cup of tea! The aircraft are good quality and the fleet is always being upgraded. You are not going to find a better school to fly with. Be a part of the family and join Airfirst. You won’t look back.

I would like to personally thank Christabelle, Emma, Clare and Katie for booking my lessons and helping with paperwork (and the cups of tea!). A big thank you to Jonathon, Martin, James, Kevin and Steve for putting me through my paces, getting me solo and getting me through the tests.

I look forward to the adventures to be had!

Way back in 2009… while sat at the office desk.. wondering why I’m chained to a desk all day (as you do!… and as I am NOW…), a light-bulb moment came along – I want to get back (last time I did was 1997!) to flying!!.. and I want to get this done NOW… So, I set about calling schools in and about London… describing how I did my PPL back in 1997, that I have virtually no documentation of that left, and would like to get back to flying… all everyone said (yes, every other school) was that I should simply start from scratch… and pay the advertised hourly-fees… only Claire at Blackbushe (my first question was “how to you pronounce “black… bu… shuu…”) was spontanious enough to engage me in a 20min conversation, answering every single one of my questions with no hesitation, impatience, or agenda on selling a course…. well, poor Claire had to put up with my presence over the next months as I parked myself in the waiting room, flying every chance I got until I obtained my PPL in record time… I went through every single aircraft and flew with every single instructor in my eagerness to complete my PPL… thereafter, I was flying every chance I got (at least every forthnight)… I have now lived in Singapore for a couple of years.. and the top three things I miss most about the UK has got to be Blackbushe School of Flying (well – my last local Fish-N-Chips almost beat you to the spot…)… well done guys… I cannot wait to walk into that waiting room soon… and crossing over to the flight-line to get back in the air!!!… no doubt.. the TOP flying school in my books!!!

It took me many weeks of searching many flying schools in the south east of England trying to find the right one. I searched high and low (excuse the pun) I visited several flying schools, had a good chat with the instructors, a look at how they offered their training and the options to pay for it and viewed their aircraft before moving on to the next school.
It is strange how it happened but AirFirst Blackbushe School of Flying was the last one that I visited, by this time I had become a little disheartened as I hadn’t warmed to any of the others, however, I can not recommend highly enough AirFirst! They are a family run business, everyone is so warm, welcoming, professional and friendly, you are not just “another customer” here! I am extremely proud to be doing my PPL with them and I would not hesitate telling everyone about them.
Everything about AirFirst is professionally run from how they operate to their ground school tuition to their immaculately maintained aircraft. I have to say that I have felt like part of the family since I met the owner on the day I previewed the school. Trust me, if you want to learn to fly this is in my opinion the BEST school to train with, take my word for it and I promise you that you will not be disappointed. John R

I chose Blackbushe Aviation to learn at because it had a nice informal feel and was good value for money. I would them. I got the chance to fly back from Le Touquet quite early on in my training, which was a nice reminder of what would be possible once I had my ticket (see picture).

Now that I have a license and an aircraft share, I still keep in touch and attend information days and events. It’s nice to still be able to discuss things and get feedback from people whose opinion I value and who know how I fly. I think this tells you something about the value of choosing the right place to learn where you can become part of the community.

At the time I started the road to a PPL there were a number of flying schools at Blackbushe. Naturally I picked the one next to the cafe. All the instructors and staff are very personable, knowledgable, and willing to help with good advice on anyone of a number of subjects. My instructor was very patient with me (and me with him!), and I am glad that I went with them. The fact that it is a tarmac runway means that you can fly all year round with the added bonus that you don’t get too muddy walking to the plane. The flying club that is part of the school is very friendly, with lots of people with lots of hours that always ready to help in a friendly manner that is not condescending.

My advice for anyone considering doing their PPL is to go for a trial flight with them.

Blackbushe Aviation is the friendliest, most motivational and professional club I know. Having started flying training at a different club, I was put off by their cold and dispassionate attitude. So I transferred to Blackbushe Aviation and haven’t looked back. They definitely go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, encourage and support you. They always make time and make flying fun! Having gained my PPL 2 years ago, I came back for my Night Qualification and I’m currently training for my IMC rating. There is a real club atmosphere and they encourage new PPLs to use their licences and extend their skills. I would recommend them to anyone.
