Great flying school! I have finished my PPL there very recently and from the moment I had walked in I felt welcome and at ease. The instructors are helpful and always happy to answer any questions. The lesson booking process is easily done online and the availability is excellent, any aircraft type/day/time/instructor available if you book in advance so that’s a great tool in planning your training! Any communication was always quick and easy. Also, you can take your PPL theory exams on site whenever you feel ready. I am delighted I have completed my training with TFL and I highly recommend them!

Finding Flight Training London was a real stroke of luck. I’d been thinking about learning to fly for a long time and Flight Training London were immediately helpful, honest and friendly. All their initial advice and estimations turned out to be spot on.
Throughout the whole experience I’ve admired their professionalism and have been made to feel part of a large family.
Any extra help needed has been given without hesitation and the whole experience made thoroughly enjoyable. I would recommend FTL to anyone at any stage of their flying.

Having previously googled flight schools in London which were nearby to where i reside, Flight Training London, did initially come up but i chose a different school due to the price at the time, the school which i then trained at was cheap but the travel duration was about 1hr 20 mins drive each way which did take it’s toll at times, but i ignored the later thinking of the cheap price, but now comparing the prices of the later school and Flight Training London, i can proudly say and wisely that training even at PPL stage cannot be given a price, as there is an old saying that ‘ if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys ‘.

i won’t name the school in particular and i won’t say the training was rubbish but what i disliked was that, where i had booked double lessons to speed my progress and make the most of my day at the school , there were times where lessons were cancelled without been told why, and i felt intimated to question the reason as i thought i did not want to upset the management and my instructor..

i spent roughly 40 odd lessons at the school and i started to question my progress as that at that stage of my training i should have been allowed to go on navigation on my own, a module within the PPL syllabus.

When i did question this i was told my training was not good enough and i needed more lesson’s, also that the instructor whom i began to learn with had another student who came after me but was given preferences in lessons over me even though i had booked in advance. Shortly afterwards i was then briefed privately by my instructor that he felt i needed additional training where i could fly at least twice a day and that he felt that he had exhausted all his available options in terms of teaching me and did not know what else to do

i then left the school distraught and upset and then searched for other flight schools, low and behold i came across Flight Training London, the school i initially saw but was put off by the price but then after researching the school more such as looking at the Facebook page, Instagram page , Twitter page and the reviews on google i was amazed, every single review or post featured was positive and there was like a family vibe that came across, even though the price was slightly more then my previous school i felt that i was nearing to the end of my PPL syllabus and that i was determined to finish it here also that having googling the website ‘ the top rank flying schools the school came up in the top 10 in the whole of UK, thus my concerns and issues was put on hold thinking even an outside comparison website rated the school very high , 7 out of 42 , i can’t speak for other schools but in my opinion it should be number 1…

I called up the school a day before and expressed my concerns and explained the stages of my training and was felt assured by the staff whom i spoke to that i can finish my training at the school and they could accommodate to my training needs. my vision of the school was quite different to the visit, it felt more like a family atmosphere than a business as such and there were many other students of different age & ethnicity . I was quickly allocated an instructor and began my training the very next day, i decided that i was too tired to find another school and could not bear the distance in traveling to other schools that were rated slightly higher than Flight Training London, as that by now i was determined to finish my PPL here at Flight Training London and to see if the positive reviews were actually true or just an advertising way of enticing students etc.

The school which uses Elstree airfield was unique and different to my other school as that they have two run ways in use depending on the time of the day this is due to noise abatement area, so this was something i had to get used to, i also was in the company of other instructors of different age and those of ex pilots from the commercial sector, this was good as that it helped with questions i had concerning my progress to become a pilot in the near future also i was taught tips and given advice on how to brush up my general skills sets in terms of flying etc in accordance to getting my PPL license.

Where i now was spending slightly more i was learning at a better rate and my progress which i was making i felt more comfortable as a whole and i was learning on how to become a better student pilot and the lesson availaibilty in terms of booking was great, they have an online booking schedule where one can book at the comfort in their own home.

The lessons at the school was fun and honestly i cannot criticise a single moment of my training other than where lessons were cancelled due to weather issues, again this was no way to be blamed on the school. The proud moment at my time of the school which i felt a sense of relief and satisfaction was when i completed my solo navigation and the solo qualifying cross country, having completed both these in such a short duration of time i could see the finish line, receiving my PPL license and during my whole training my
skills sets were not questioned as in that they did not say to me once we can’t help you as told by my previous flight school.

A funny story to share is that on my qualifying cross country i saw my previous instructor from my previous school at the airfield which i had to land which is part of the PPL syllabus and i really wanted to say hello and tell him of my achievement now at Flight Training London but then i thought to myself why should i justify myself to him after being told that my training was not good enough to go navigation on my own

As i am writing this i can now say proudly that i am an owner of a PPL Licence, the feeling still hasn’t sunk in honestly…

To conclude i want to say a massive thank you to every singe staff at Flight Training London, the Owner Ivan and Tamsyn who is in charge of the day to day operations of the school a massive thank you, if i could cry to show my appreciation i don’t think i can cry even that of a size of an ocean, as that an ocean would be small compared to my tears expressed, honesty words cannot express my gratitude and how i am feeling hearing those days after the skills test.. ” congratulations you have passed ”

i will leave with the following saying from Khaled Hosseini

” For you a thousand times over ”

I will always speak highly of the school to the years to come and one day when i am sat in a commercial cockpit i will always think of you guys , thank you for everything and to making this grown man cry writing this review !!!!

For prospective studnets and individuals thinking of getting a PPL License, honestly don’t go anywhere else go to Flight Training London, it was the best choice i made and i wished i had joined them in the initial stage of my training!!!!

    An amazing experience!
My 16 year-old boy is passionate about aviation and has been for many years so booking a flying experience with FTL was a perfect present! It now gives him an even greater wish of becoming a pilot not necessarily for his future career but simply as a hobby.
The staff was very friendly and very welcoming. We really appreciated how they made my son feel at ease straightaway and how they recognized his level of knowledge.
The staff went the extra mile to answer all sort of questions and show us around the airfield. They showed great knowledge and enthusiasm all through the visit and have definitely plenty of stories to share!
The location is perfect and very accessible from London by public transport so it’s a plus for us.
We definitely recommend FTL where my son is looking forward to complete his PPL!

I joined FTL (Flight Training London), when I was half way through my PPL training; referred to this school by other FI (Flight Instructors), pilots and student pilots from the late Panshanger (EGLG, for those who remember), as we were all in search of a new school.

I was instantly greeted in a warm and friendly atmosphere, by Ivan and Tamsyn, who run the flying school.

Based at Elstree Aerodrome, just north of Edgware in North London, it is a great place to learn how to fly as it is within a tight airspace, close to London and as a quite short runway with a nice upslope on runway 26 (downslope on the opposite runway, 08), which makes you become a better pilot. You can also fly at night to Elstree, providing that runway 26 is in use.

I can say, and without any bias, that FTL is truly a great flying school to learn and progress through your flying training, whether you intend to fly for fun as in GA (General Aviation) or later one go commercial.

There is a diversity of instructors, always keen to help you, no matter what you are trying to achieve. They will all take the time to properly brief you about what is it that the lesson will be about, help you understand your airplane, be there for you during the lesson and also debrief you after the lesson.
Ground school are also possible whenever needed, usually in the evening, or when the weather is not flyable.

You will be able to fly small single engine airplanes, great for learning, and choose to fly either Pipers or Cessnas. You can choose between the following airplanes, well maintained and looked after:

    – PA28: 2 warriors and 2 archers
    – C152/150: 3 C152 and 2 C150

FTL is also a great place to socialise and meet other people, whether they are pilots or not, as there is a social atmosphere that dominate in this school, which pushes you not just to come for a flying lesson and leave, but rather come and share the Love of Airplanes and flying.

This is a school I highly recommend If you are serious about leaning to fly and make new friends, as these guys will dedicate to you all the possible time they have.

Go check them out, at Elstree Aerodrome, just north of Edgware, in North London, you’ll love it!!

Thank you to all the team at FTL who help me in achieving the first stage of my training, passing the PPL Skills test. Looking forward for more flying this year. All the best for 2016.

I have been flying since I was 17 (PPL IMC NIGHT) in 1997 I had to stop due to illness. In November 2014 my partner took me up to Elstree for a surprise day out and having seen a few flying schools there someone took us to see Flight Training London.

As I said I have been flying a long time so have seen a number of different schools and approaches in my life but I can honestly say that Floght Training London is probably the best I have seen. It is run on a friendly “we are all in this together” approach. Parties and get togethers are organised regularly, a proper club environment but with a very serious approach to flying training.

Ivan the CFI is excellent calm and as such you learn a lot. The other instructors are not just hour builders but career instructors determined to tales have you to fly and enjoy it as well. Nothing and no one is ever too much trouble.

I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I’ve been flying the FTL for the past few months working towards my PPL and absolutely love it.

The location is ideal and the airfield is big enough to have good facilities but small enough to remain friendly.
FTL have a great fleet of well-maintained aircraft and an equally well-maintained fleet of instructors.

The whole school has a great friendly atmosphere and they’re constantly putting on fun events and fly-ins for students of all levels.

Definitely somewhere worth investing your time and hard-earned cash!

I am very close to completing my PPL with FTL after moving there when Panshanger closed down. The school is exceptionally run with very experienced and friendly instructors and staff. The aircraft are very well maintained and the whole flying experience with FTL is just brilliant. The instructors are always more than happy to talk to you about anything you need or want to know, even if they are not your instructor for that day! Being based at Elstree is also an advantage. The surrounding low and busy airspace and the short slopping runway make Elstree one of the most challenging airfields in the UK to operate at. Because of this, training with FTL will not only be a great experience but will teach you to operate at airfields such as Elstree freeing you to go anywhere once you gain your PPL. I would recommend FTL to anyone who wants to learn to fly or just go and have an experience.

My boyfriend was a trainee pilot who hadn’t flown for about a year so I decided to surprise him for his birthday. He’s quite tall so decided to go with the 4-seater plane so I could hop in the back and take photos too. He had an amazing day and we had a lot of fun up in the air with such an enthusiastic and energetic pilot (Julian) – he made our day! I can’t imagine a better way that the day could have panned out. The entire team at Flight Training London are lovely and are super fun (although still professional). I think it’s safe to say that my boyfriend will be continuing his lessons again with them :).

Where do I begin? Flight Training London – top of the ladder aviation school. Aircraft are well maintained and you are in exceptional care with the instructors. Everybody is very informal and approachable and that’s what I love about Flight Training London. You can be with people who share the passion for aviation. Everybody is very flexible towards your preferences. Love it! Every time I had the chance – I’d be booking in a heartbeat. If I was never recommended to Flight Training London, I wouldn’t be viewing the world in the way I do now. Now I’m going to be returning the favour by recommending other people, so they could have the same extraordinary experience I have. Much love for Flight Training London!

Having had to switch flying schools owing to the closure of the one I had been flying at, I chose Flight Training London to help me complete my PPL. From Day-1 I was made to feel welcome and part of the family.

The training is excellent, offering a range of aircraft to choose from, and they operate seven days a week too, giving you the maximum opportunity to book lessons on their online self-service booking system.

And to make it even better, they’ve just moved to new facilities offering better car parking, briefing and learning facilities in a professional but welcoming environment.

If you just want to see what it’s like in the air or you want to do your PPL or more, Flight Training London offers everything you need

The team at Flight Training London make learning to fly even more of an amazing experience. You are always greeted with friendly smiling faces and they make sure that you get all the help and advice you need to get your PPL. Flight Training London is also great for trial lessons and experiences. Flight Training London also host events at the aerodrome which gives that extra personal touch, helping create a family like atmosphere, whilst giving you the chance to meet some of the other learners.

The instructors always ensure that you get the best out of every lesson and are dedicated to their roles. They have so much knowledge and always make time to answer all your questions in the air and on the ground. They have structured lessons that provide you with clear objectives and at the same time make the learning fun. :)

From not having any knowledge of Cessna’s to now taking off in one! I have loved every second of flying and I am excited to continue learning to fly at the school. I would highly recommend others to choose Flight Training London as their springboard to the sky!

My boyfriend and I recently took a trial flying lesson with Flight Training London and loved every minute. It was very easy to book, the staff were friendly, responsive, and flexible throughout the process, and everything ran incredibly smoothly. When we got to Elstree, we were met by our instructor Juan, who was competent, patient, and calm through the entire lesson. He answered all of our questions and clearly knew what he was doing. I was impressed by how much we were allowed to do on our first lesson – it was the perfect balance of feeling in control of the plane and feeling safe. Juan even pointed out fun landmarks to us as we flew and showed us various (basic) manoeuvres we could do with the plane. It’s also incredibly affordable for what you get. I would absolutely recommend the flying school to anyone.

Flight Training London is a fantastic flight school! Learning to fly is an amazing and fun thing to do, and the friendly instructors and regular social events really help to create that atmosphere. I’ve just completed my first solo and have been smiling all day!

As well as extremely capable and professional teaching in the air, the instructors always make time for you on the ground and nothing is ever rushed. In fact, following several unlucky weeks of winter weather my instructor came in especially early on Christmas Eve to give me a lesson. There are plenty of planes of different types and an online booking system, so arranging lessons is easy.

I am proud to be part of Flight Training London and would definitely recommend them to anyone interested in a trial flight or getting their pilot’s license!

I had a trial flight in August and by December I had finished my PPL. I was able to complete my training so quickly thanks to the most professional and fun instructors at FTL. Every time you walk in to the office you are immersed in the most friendly and supportive atmosphere of instructors, other students and PPL holders. The culture at the school is very inclusive and relaxed. You meet a variety of great people who share the dream of flying and they have the answer to any question you may have about a flying career, leisurely flying or anything else! Regular social events are organised and fly outs are arranged when you obtain your license. The school has a great range of aircraft to suit anyone and the tarmac runway is great to train on. The aerodrome is ideally situated, very accessible by car and public transport. If you want to give flying a go then this is the school for you. FTL gives you wings!

An awesome school that feels much more like a very friendly club than a school. I have flown at a couple of schools previously and that is very much what they were – just schools. I have only had 1 lesson so far but I already feel like part of the family.

The staff are extremely friendly; especially Sarah who makes a point of introducing you to everyone, from the examiners, to instructors and to all other students that are there at the time. You couldn’t be made to feel more welcome.

One of the things I like the most is the relaxed atmosphere which is something that is not particularly common place in my experience for a flying school.

Another huge selling point is the fact that as part of your training you get to fly to places like Jersey and Guernsey as part of your standard training. Not only this but they often have expeds to places like France and Norway, which students are free to join. I’m not sure what other ‘flying school’ offers this to student pilots as part of their training!

In summary, if you want to learn to fly in a relaxed and friendly environment where you are made to feel like an equal and not just some student that doesn’t deserve the time of day because you don’t have 2000 hours under your belt, then Freedom Aviation (it’s called that for a reason :-) ) is definitely where you want to be.

An absolutely fantastic flying school and would highly recommend it!

I started my PPL training with the school in April and passed last week in just over 45 hours flying. The school and instructors have been very helpful from start to finish and take a very keen interest on your progress. The instructors are willing to teach as fast or as slowly as you like and are always happy to help. There is a range of aircraft to choose from with FTL and all are in excellent condition and there is even the opportunity to perform your own aerobatic manoeuvres!

The social side of the school is also very appealing as during the summer there are frequent BBQ’s and fly outs. these are a great opportunity to talk to other students and instructors with the school and bring along friends and family to the airfield to see what you get up to.

I have thouroughly enjoyed my experience with Flight Training London and they have been very helpful. I am looking forward to getting my night time and aerobatic rating with them when i return from university this christmas.

I’ve been training with Flight Training London (FTL) since September 2013 and I have had an absolutely fantastic experience with them. All the instructors and staff at the school are professional yet friendly and approachable, making the whole learning and flying experience a lot easier for the student and much more fun!

As the flight school has continued to grow and more pilots have joined up with Flight Training London, many fun filled fly outs have been organised to distant airfields with other students, where sometimes it could be a lunchtime or dinner outing.

However, FTL doesn’t just stop at teaching students how to fly, they regularly hold group classes of ground schooling, as well as private one to one schooling, enabling students to pass their ground school exams quickly with a high success rate.

I personally chose FTL over other schools due to their friendly approach and their enthusiasm to share their joy of aviation to their students. I have made some great friends here and would definitely recommend this school to anyone who is considering either a trial flight or obtaining their PPL.

Far more than just a school!

I have been training at Flight Training London for a few months now and am loving it. They are a great school, with great instructors and provide far more than just teaching.
When looking for a school I considered the following things: People, Facilities, Aircraft, Availability, Experience and Transport.
I would give FTL five stars for every one of those. The people are very friendly and always have time for you, even after hours, the facilities at the airfield and school are great with controllers on site from 9am to 8pm every day, night lights, tarmac runway, cafe and soon a restaurant as well. The school has nice atmosphere and good social events to meet other pilots and students. The aircraft are very tidy and well maintained and you can try your hand at any of them should you feel the need, from C152, PA28, C172, Aerobatics in an Aerobat and even a Glass Cockpit PA28. I didn’t ever have issues getting lessons even though I was training 3 times a week. All the instructors are extremely experienced and only too happy to talk about their adventures and experiences, (some of them are commercial pilots as well) and the best thing is they are in London! For me this was a big bonus. They have a tube station a 5 minute drive away as well as an overland from King Cross Station and are the closest airfield from Central London.
I would highly recommend this school – especially after trying a few schools a little further away, and this is by far the best. I can’t wait to get back into training after my trip abroad.

Simply an awesome school! I was fortunate to come across Flight Training London soon after I started training for my PPL, from the start everyone was very friendly and professional. From my experience I find that most flying schools are based around the shared love of flying, but at FTL that extends to the actual teaching as well. FTL is based at Elstree in north London inside the M25, and is incredibly convenient for anyone in London who doesn’t have a car. Also Elstree has a fun and challenging runway – if you learn to land there you can land anywhere.

Without pressure and at my own pace I obtained my PPL in just under 2 years and in the minimum number of flight hours, this was only possible due to the brilliant tuition by the highly qualified and friendly instructors. As well as actual flight training there are numerous group or one to one ground school session to help with the theoretical work.

In addition to the actual training the school organises summer BBQs and staff bday parties, where students and friends of the school get a proper chance to meet. Even better are the fun away trips with a collection of planes where we go for lunch in cool places as far afield as northern France before coming back. The atmosphere is always guaranteed to be friendly and enthusiastic.

So whether you’re looking for an experience flight, a cool hobby, an additional rating, a future flying career or simply to rent a plane, you need to start with a visit to FTL. I’m looking forward to adding a night rating to my licence this winter with FTL. Thank you all so much and see you soon.

Flight Training London is undoubtably one of the greatest flying schools in the London area, or even the whole of the UK. Based at Elstree Aerodrome, it is very easy for me to commute to via public transport, making it cheap and a stress free experience when I travel to attend the lessons. FTL offers a variety of different flying courses, and to chase my dreams of becoming a commercial pilot I am currently training for my PPL license. Originally I started off with Durham Tees Flight Training up in the North East, however due to family reasons I now train in the London area. I became a member in July 2013 with the beautiful non stop summer weather enabling me to fly limitlessly almost everyday leaving me with 20 hours in my logbook! The summer of 2013 was definitely something to remember, however the best time I have had so far with FTL was on the 22nd of December 2013 where I had turned 16. On that day I had sat my Air Law exam and a couple of hours later took to the skies for my first solo flight! That day couldn’t have been any better without the help of FTL, and I am still grateful to them for celebrating my birthday with me and pushing me to pass my Air Law exam and to safely conduct a flight under my command.
The reasons that make Flight Training London one of the greatest flight schools in my opinion is because of the enthusiasm that all the staff there have and the warm, vibrant, family like atmosphere that exists within the school! Through my experiences the flight instructors and the marketing manager always have a smile on their faces everyday as well as a great sense of humour. If you like to crack flying related jokes or go as far as dressing up for your flights (yes… I’ve done that…) FTL is definitely the right place to be! To finish off with the friendly atmosphere, the flight school is still relatively young and new therefore still growing, making it easier to get to know other students you may well see more than once if you decide to train there. And certainly the best place to meet all the other members is the parties that they host at the aerodrome from time to time.
Thank you Flight Training London for the greatest times you’ve brought to me, everyday I look forward to what future training sessions will bring me, whether I’m in the UK or in the far east :)
