After many years I have decided to come back to flying, so I started a full search looking for some flying schools around the Cotswolds area.
I felt that, out of all the ones I came across, Freedom had the perfect balance of crucial factors:
    – They are very well organised.
    – They are up to date with all specific rules of ground exam sittings etc.. and will give you clear and accurate guidance on them.
    – The resources for ground school and flying are perfect for an efficient progress of your training. They don’t want you to just to keep flying, we can see they will provide all the support and tools for you to complete your specific training course you decide to go for (LAPL, PPL, Night Rating, IFR, etc).
    – The aircrafts are well maintained including keeping up with their service and maintenance schedules by the book.
    – As an engineer I like to see a very well structured plan before the start of my training and that’s what saw in this club.
    – Sarah, Dave and the instructors are not only friendly but also very professional, knowledgeable and have tons of experience.
    – The location is really nice with a great Cotswolds feel to it, which makes the flying experience even more pleasant compared to busier Airports e.g. Gloucester.

In summary, it has all the key elements for you to achieve your training goals keeping you focused and at the same time and most importantly without any stress.

Those points mentioned above are so clear to demonstrate when you see them in practice that I already convinced two of my work colleagues to join me in this venture with Freedom.

    Highly recommended.

I transferred to Freedom after starting my PPL at another flying school.
I couldn’t rate them more highly, from the instruction, the knowledge and friendliness of all the staff to the standard of the PA-28
Warrior aircraft. The Ground schools are invaluable and there are many opportunities to meet other students, which I find really helpful.
If you’re considering learning to fly or want to belong to a friendly flying club then this really is the place to be. I haven’t looked back.

I can thoroughly recommend Freedom Aviation on both the quality of the flying training provided and the high standard to which all their aircraft are maintained. A flexible, friendly team of staff and instructors made every visit a pleasure, and ensured that I achieved the goals I had set myself: a tailwheel conversion, an FI Assessment of Competence and a Cross Channel flight. Keep up the good work!

I recently completed my Night Rating through Freedom Aviation and couldn’t rate the service any higher. I found all the staff to be friendly and approachable, the hanger/clubhouse area was very well maintained and provided the feeling of a professional and well organised flying school. All of their PA28 Warriors are very well equipped and maintained to a high standard. With a short notice change to airfield availability, the staff at Freedom endeavoured to provide an alternative location to ensure the training could be completed. The level of instruction received was excellent, and as a fairly recently qualified PPL holder, I felt it developed my flying aside from just the night time aspect of flying. Due to the high level of service received and an excellent fleet of aircraft, I will be returning later in the year to complete the IR(r) course.

My earlier review of Freedom was posted in 2015 following my first solo. I then flew all the way to the Black Sea and back as a student on a Freedom Expedition, a fantastic experience that increased my flying competence and confidence substantially. And it was great fun. Thereafter I completed my training and ‘graduated’ with a PPL, even though my initial aspiration was for a LAPL.

Since gaining the PPL I have enjoyed flying alone and with friends. But even more enjoyably I have been crewing with fellow Freedom aviators to a variety of destinations where one of us flies the aircraft and the other handles the navigation and radio, just like commercial aviation and absolute bliss for a new pilot. I have also been flying from time-to-time with an instructor to ensure I am maintaining vital skills while still low hours on PPL.

I have no benchmark for comparison having never flown with another outfit. But Freedom has and continues to serve the needs of those who want to fly in a competent and confident way. No organisation is perfect but Freedom is open to positive feedback and that is refreshing because others are often deaf to customer comments.

So I will continue to fly with Freedom Aviation and Freedom colleagues with confidence. And I look forward to that, immensely.

Have been flying with Freedom Aviation for a few months having completed my PPL elsewhere.

Instructors and staff at Freedom are friendly and knowledgeable and are more than happy to give help and advice which I, as a very low houred and inexperienced pilot have found invaluable.

The fleet of aircraft are well equipped and maintained to a very high standard and there is good availability.

I’ve just completed an aerobatics rating with Freedom Aviation. I already have an ATPL and the aerobatics course was something I have always wanted to add to my licence but never got round to it. I wanted to improve my knowledge and have the confidence to do aerobatics solo, We did all the basic manoeuvres together with the spin training and ‘upset recovery techniques’ …. I have to say, it was the best bit of flying I’ve done for a long time…The course was very well structured, together with Dave’s brilliant instruction, I soon perfected the ‘Stall Turn’ and learnt how to link this manoeuvre with others like a ‘Half Cuban’ to make my own mini sequence!!

The rest of the staff including Sarah and Laura made me feel so welcome. There was such a friendly and fun atmosphere it really added to the training experience. Can’t wait to do more flying with them, the Citabria is a great little machine.

I posted a comment about 12 months ago when I had just started my PPL training. Thanks to the patience, support and professionalism of Freedom I have now managed to pass my skills test.

Obtaining a PPL is a big commitment both in terms of time and money and it is important that you get on with the people at the flying school. Having spent 15 months visiting Freedom on a very regular basis I can say that all the instructors and office team are superb. As well as first class instruction they also make the training fun.

I can’t thank them enough and would recommend them to anyone who is looking to start their journey, complete additional training or find a club to fly with.

For any military guys the ELCAS process through Freedom couldn’t have been easier or Sarah and Dave anymore accommodating.

    Many thanks.

Having been away from flying for nearly 10 years I had a lot of catching up to do! I booked an SEP revalidation course with Freedom and spent a week with them training to undertake a proficiency check.

From the start I found the staff and instructors at Freedom professional, accommodating and welcoming. Having flown with a number of flying clubs around the UK I am happy to report that they are the best I have had the pleasure to work with. Nothing was too much trouble. The level of instruction was exactly what I needed with the right balance of progress and demand. They were also very happy to listen to my feedback from lessons and adapt the training to suit areas that I felt that I needed. It is also well worth mentioning that the aircraft at Freedom are in top condition and very well equipped indeed.

At the end of the week I had flown a great deal and felt that I had not only passed my check but increased my overall aviation knowledge in the process!

I cannot recommend Freedom enough. I will be returning to complete further training with them in the future. Many thanks to Dave, Sarah, Laura and Blake for their hard work in getting me back up to speed.

After 7 years on and off working towards my PPL I finally decided to complete my training with Freedom Aviation. I have flown with a number of clubs which have no continuity with training due to a lack of instructors and dirty old aircraft. But with Freedom you get none of this.

A couple of months ago I was introduced to Freedom Aviation by a friend who had completed hour building with them and from the moment I walked in to their offices I was hooked.

The facilities are excellent and they feature modern class rooms and offices, which is a pleasing to see when most clubs operate out of old portakabins. The staff and instructors are outstanding and you will struggle to find a question that can’t be answered, whether it be a licensing and regulation question to aircraft technical. Another great part about the club is that no matter what time in the day you want to fly they will try their hardest to accommodate. Due to me working Monday-Friday I found with previous clubs I could only fly at weekends due to instructor availability (then getting an aircraft was another struggle), but with Freedom I flew most of my hours after work in the evenings and there was never a problem to find an instructor.

The quality of the aircraft are outstanding with all aircraft featuring GPS and modern avionics and I feel like I could rely on all of these aircraft in the most difficult situations. A number of staff can carry out maintenance so there is never a worry that an aircraft would be unserviceable for a long period of time. In my training I had one technical issue with my aircraft which with most clubs would have led to me not being able to fly, but with the help of proactive staff an hour later I was in the air.

I started with the club on the 6th May 2016 and at that time I had no medical, taken no exams and never flown solo. On the 11th June 2016 I had successfully passed my skills test within 47 hours of flying and I had completed a solo qualifying cross country where I landed at 2 major airports with lots of commercial traffic. I believe this was down to quality instructors who do not want to carry out basic exercises over and over again just to burn time and make the club more money. My instructor Simon tried to put as much in to each lesson as possible and in some 1 hour flights I covered and learnt more than I did in 3 hours at other clubs. The instructors do not give you a hard time and make you feel relaxed at all times. They also teach modern techniques which will be useful in a professional environment.

Another part of the club is that they allow you to push yourself and they have no set routes that you have to follow and complete they let you decide where you want to go. For myself who is looking to pursue a career through modular training this has given me a great start to my flying career.

All in all I can safely say that Freedom Aviation is one of the best flying clubs in the UK. The price per hour is incredible and you would struggle to find a club who charges £160 P/H (instructional) and has the same quality of aircraft and facilities as Freedom. I will continue to fly with the club during my hour building and night rating as the support you get from all the team is second to none. I would like to thank Sarah, Laura, Simon, Dave and the rest of the team for all their help over the past month and getting me through the process so quickly !

After a trial flight with Dave, I was seriously hooked and knew straight away that Freedom was the club for me. Dave and Sarah run a professional, modern and fun flying club which makes every visit a real pleasure. You can’t help but be impressed with their excellent fleet of aircraft: well-maintained, fitted with the latest in avionics, clean and comfortable.

I was lucky enough to complete my PPL in just over 6 months, which was largely due to the excellent training and support offered by Dave, Sarah and the rest of the Freedom Team. Pre-flying briefs and in-flight training by Dave were top notch while his good-natured banter and positive approach certainly helped ease the stress levels and enhance learning.

Freedom is a great club with a welcoming atmosphere. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Freedom to both trainee and qualified pilots – you won’t be disappointed.

I completed my PPL in well under a year thanks to Freedom’s superbly run flying school. Learning to fly is obviously not a walk in the park, and every person associated with the club, existing members, instructors both in the air and on the ground, were always willing to go that little bit further to answer a question, or to help in anyway they could.
The club run excellently maintained aircraft. All are clean, tidy, well equipped and a pleasure to fly.

Freedom are based at the brilliant Cotswold Airport (Kemble) as well as Oaksey Park – Both aerodromes are set in beautiful Cotswold countryside making the flying an even more enjoyable experience.

As some of the other comments testify, Freedom Aviation clearly care a great deal about what they do. There is definitely a friendly atmosphere with the club- there are always opportunities to go on over seas tours & social events etc…

If you are thinking of learning to fly and are weighing up your options – look no further. You wont be disappointed. Thanks to everyone at Freedom Aviation Once again.

Freedom Aviation clearly fit things around *your* needs and experience (rather than insist everyone does things their way), and build a personalised experience for you. Great, clean and well-looked-after aircraft, combined with the stunning Cotswold scenery make it a no-brainer. I can’t recommend them enough, and can’t wait for my next lesson!

I’ve been flying professionally for 30 some years, both Military and commercial and wanted to get back into GA flying after a long lay off. I wanted someone who would respect my experience but make sure I was safe to be let out on my own on a new type. From the first phone call, Freedom were a delight to work with. Relaxed, professional and slick. Courtesy of Dave and Sarah’s expertise, I had a really enjoyable return to the skies of Wiltshire and I learnt plenty too. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I’ve continued to fly with them, despite now having a share in an aircraft locally. I’m also going to do some more training with them for aerobatics and spinning. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Dave and Sarah have a totally professional attitude, are fully committed to helping all their members, and nothing is too much trouble for them. There is a fleet of very well maintained aircraft, a simple online booking system, and two great airfields to fly from, Kemble and Oaksey. As a 550+ hr PPL i felt I needed new skills. Whilst an IMC or the new Enroute Instrument rating would be good I wouldn’t be able to use it from at my home airfield, Middle Wallop. I wanted fly a different A/C type from the usual PA28/C172 type and decided that a Tailwheel endorsement would give me that challenge. Finding somewhere to train became the next issue, there were 2 possibilities. One was by the seaside on the East Coast and Freedom. The first one didn’t reply to my emails and failed to reply to my calls either – that left Freedom. What a difference, an immediate call back from Sarah and my Taildragger adventure began. An adventure it is – Rudder Control took on a whole new meaning! I’m now flying with John Warman who must have nerves of steel and the patience of a saint. Having become one of the Freedom club I look forward to possibly getting my night flying skills sharpened up at Kemble during the winter months.
Would I recommend Freedom, yes. Would I bother going elsewhere, no.

I had been interested in training for my PPL for a number of years and had a couple of trial lessons with other flying schools. However as soon as I met people from Freedom I realised that they were different.

As many have already commented the instructors are excellent without being too formal and the aircraft are clean and very well maintained (everything works!). Everyone involved is also extremely friendly. I started my training with Glen who has recently left to train with an airline and have now moved to Dave. They have different styles but both are excellent.

As well as the flying and ground school training the club is also active with a number of socials and day/weekend trips. As a new student I was rather apprehensive of joining in these events. However all are very welcome and made to feel part of the club.

A memorable experience was a day drips to Wales and the South West (we were meant to go further but the weather as ever intervened). I flew the first leg from Kemble to Haverfordwest with the instructor next to me and two other qualified pilots in the back. With only 12 hours experience I was rather nervous about this to start with but everyone was very helpful and encouraging.

All in all highly recommended – either to someone who just wants to learn to fly or those who are starting out with flying as a career.

I got my PPL in 1991 and have been a commercial airline captain since 2000. I have maintained my SEP (single engine piston) rating on my licence and wanted to complete a tail dragger conversion course. This is where I met Freedom Aviation. Over the years I have met many flying instructors and I have been to many flying schools.

My instructor was Dave, the only way to describe him is excellent. I always judge a flying school on:
    1. how welcoming are they to new people
    2. what are their training fleet and facilities like
    3. How much does it cost

On all three of my criteria, Freedom Aviation come top. I recommend them to you without reservation.

I joined this flying club about 2 months ago and have certainly not regretted it. The aircraft are well maintained which is the most important and the availability is second to none. All aircraft have a good selection of equipment and hiring them is at a very reasonable price. I had a gap of nearly 2 years of not flying so needed to be rechecked out, I found the instructor, very helpful, understanding & professional in his approach to bringing me back up to standard. All the staff are very helpful in assisting any way they can to make it all happen smoothly. The online booking of aircraft showing availability and being able to book a plane is so straight forward when the weather can be so unpredictable. I would highly recommend this club to anyone thinking of learning to fly or just hiring an aircraft.

I let my SEP rating lapse 5 years ago and hadn’t flown SEP for 6 years. I decided to renew and went with Freedom to do so. The reason I chose Freedom was down to word of mouth and the great things people were saying about the Club, the guys running the show and instructing. I did a few flights in the club’s Warrior and Citabria with a colleague and saw first hand that people’s reviews were spot on.

They are breaking the norm at Freedom by providing straight forward, honest training inside a relaxed and safe learning environment. In my 5 years as a professional flyer and the 2 years training before that, I have to say it was the most enjoyable and stress free training I’ve had. The instructors keep you at ease and very much treat you as the customer and adult you are.

Freedom Aviation is a family that will look after you whether you’re seasoned or fresh on the block for flying. I highly recommend them to anyone. Thank you Dave, Sarah and the team. See you again soon for aircraft hire and my tail dragger rating!

In terms of practicalities, they have a fleet of well maintained aircraft, an easy to use online booking system with good availability, and plenty of club kit that you can borrow (such as life jackets, life rafts, spare headsets, etc) if needed. I’ve just recently become a member of Freedom Aviation. I’m a current airline pilot, and approached Freedom to revalidate my SEP rating to learn how to fly little planes all over again!

I have to say that Freedom Aviation is quite simply the friendliest aviation organisation i’ve come across in 10 years of flying! Sarah responds to enquiries extremely quickly and professionally, offering all the information I need. Both Sarah and Dave spent time getting to know both me and my requirements so that I could be offered exactly what was right for me. There was no pushy attitude, or trying to sell me anything other than what I needed and wanted.

Their attitude is spot on when it comes to customer service, and I think anyone would struggle to find a friendlier and more professional flight school.

I joined Freedom in October 2014 specifically with the intention of completing my tail wheel rating on the Citabria.

I began my flying with Dave and quickly realised that I should have made the step in to this new type of flying years earlier. I now rate Dave as probably the most skilled instructor that I have ever flown with, in 7 years of flying. He instilled a great level of confidence in my abilities, and the 10 hours we spent before I soloed the Citabria were some of the most bountiful, in terms of learning new methods, skills and fun, that I have experienced.

Freedom’s approach to ‘the British flying club’ is both refreshing and promising, and should be welcomed with open arms in the industry. A forward thinking and positive approach is what the general aviation industry badly needs, and this is exactly what Freedom is providing. From booking an aircraft on my iPhone to the level of ‘freedom’ that comes with using the Citabria from Oaksey Park, the experience is brilliant. Oaksey really feels like you’re wheeling your own aircraft out of the hangar.

Sarah and Dave have clearly put a great deal into building this fantastic environment in which to fly, with modern fleet, alongside some ‘spicy’ additions! (Citabria & XA-42).

Freedom really is something unique to the UK and you won’t regret flying with them.

I haven’t been flying at Freedom for long, However, I found their jovial and welcoming yet professional attitude towards flying very helpful. Also, With a good fleet of aircraft, experience within and the locations of the club. The pricing is incredibly competitive and the membership service is the best I have seen. A new map practically bought for you every year, one less thing to worry about! I have been a member of flying clubs all over the country in the last nine years but the thing that makes me want to stay at Freedom is the community aspect, of young, aspiring, like minded pilot’s flying in the same place who can share their experiences. That said, Freedom Aviation offers a wide range, mixed bag of friendly clientele to mingle with. I hope to finish my tailwheel rating soon and go on as many flyouts and expeditions with the club as possible!

Of the five flying schools and various GA clubs/groups I’ve flown with in the past, Freedom is by far the least hierarchical and stuffy. Totally welcoming combined with easy-going professionalism. Not a handlebar moustache or v-neck Pros:sweater in sight.

    Pros:
    – good fleet of well maintained and well equipped PA-28s.
    – Cantabria for taildragger conversion and aeros.
    – complete range of type and rating training available, from mature and experienced instructors.
    – outstanding pair of neighbouring home bases: Kemble (2000m tarmac, FIS etc) and Oaksey (grass strip in farmland).
    – welcoming attitude and positive learning culture from Dave and Sarah, a successful blend of the military and commercial that works well.
    – enough scale to be flexible and professional, but not so large that individuals are forgotten.
    – the banter and customer-care of a first class service oriented small business.
    – well priced tuition and aircraft hire.
    – organised overseas trips (Romania in 2015).

    Cons:
    – can’t think of any.

Best of all, they go out of their way to make every individual flying experience all that it can be.

This is a follow up review following my previous review after my first lesson in November. Having now qualified as a pilot with Freedom I can honestly say that Freedom Aviation is quite possibly the best flying club/school that you will ever find. The whole team at Freedom really are some of nicest and coolest people you could ever wish to meet. My instructor was Glen Bridges who really is a fantastic instructor and pilot; recognised by the fact that he has just landed himself a job with a very well known airline as a First Officer. During the course of my training I did a mini expedition to Ireland, flying along the west coast and through the valleys. It was supposed to be Germany but the weather was too poor to the East. I’m pretty sure there aren’t too many schools that offer that sort of experience prior to becoming qualified! Learning with Freedom has inspired me to go all the way and train to get my ATPL and I’m certain that this is wholly to do with the experience I have had at Freedom. For now though, I’m looking forward to my first flight as a qualified pilot on Friday :-)

Thanks again everyone at Freedom (specifically Glen, Sarah and Dave).

During a long holiday in New Zealand I took a trip with Air Safari that took us over Lake Tekapo, around Mt Cook, along the Southern Alps and over the Franz Josef Glacier. It was awesome (not a word that 70-year olds use that much?) sitting in the co-pilot’s seat so I did it all over again the following day in perfect flying conditions.

Being recently retired, I was getting under my wife’s feet and she was looking for something that would occupy me. Now she knew what she wanted – “he can learn to fly”! Despite my protests that I had never shown any interest or inclination I was presented to the Southern Aviation flying club at Wanaka. After some discussion with their instructor I was flying in a C152 within 5 minutes. After that, I spent the next 8 weeks looking for small airfields, where I could get the opportunity to fly, to see if it was something I truly would like to do.

Once back home and, having researched many options, I met Sarah and the rest “is history”. Learning to fly with Freedom Aviation was “a no brainer”.

Dave and Sarah are passionate about aviation and strive to ensure you have a great flying and training experience. They are very helpful and supportive. They are professionalism personified and 100% committed to helping anyone achieve their goals.

Sarah keeps everything well organized and running smoothly from an administrative perspective so that it is a very professional, friendly school, ready to help its members in whatever capacity they need.

A superb fleet of well-equipped aircraft is maintained to the highest level and provides reassurance for safety and reliability.

Freedom’s entire staff is great. Flight instruction and ground school is excellent. Ground school instruction at Oaksey in a relaxed atmosphere with the chance to meet fellow students makes study for the exams almost pleasurable. Ben and Bob are excellent teachers and help you through every aspect of the syllabus.

There is a scale to Freedom that, with a good-sized fleet of aircraft and a number of full-time flying instructors, ensures you can pretty much always book a flying lesson or hire a plane when you want to. It’s never a problem booking an instructor or plane. Online booking is simple and easy.

Dave, with plenty of experience, is the “big cheese” of all flying operations. Dave is a great instructor, examiner and team leader. Before each lesson students get a detailed briefing with no time pressure and again after each flight a good debrief and plans for the next lesson. Each lesson is tailored to your needs and your pace of learning and the instruction is absolutely first class.

Kemble Airfield (Cotswold Airport) is an excellent airfield and probably as good as they come for general aviation. Oaksey Park is a beautiful grass strip reminiscent of yester-year.

Freedom Aviation is a superb flying school/club. If you are thinking of learning to fly and are weighing up your options – look no further.

    You won’t be disappointed.

My first review ended with ‘now keep it up!’ and this one begins with ‘good job!’ Under the patient supervision of John Warman I had my first solo within a couple of months. And under the firm encouragement of Sarah and Dave I am cracking on towards my ultimate goal with renewed enthusiasm. Not bad for late learner. So to those of you out there who are thinking about learning to fly I say ‘give it a go’. You have nothing to lose but your inhibition.

Just taken my first solo with Freedom. Glen has provided outstanding tuition and I’m looking forward to Nav and all that’s coming soon. It’s been great fun with the odd jaunt further afield to keep things interesting and plenty of variety to build confidence.
Ask for Sarah or Rene in the office they’ll be deligted to help, no matter how small.
Dave’s the chief cheese and I recommend attending some of his landside training – you’ll learn so much more than reading the book…
Worth mentionning the outstanding facilities at Kemble too. Helpful control tower and great coffee at Av8.

I joined Freedom Aviation in the early part of 2013 after recommendations from a few friends and was immediately struck by how friendly the club was, with Dave & Sarah creating a genuinely welcoming environment.

I’d had my PPL for about 5 years and had flown with various clubs around the UK when I joined Freedom and have found it to be one of the very best – the flexibility and level of trust afforded to members is one of the main things, nothing’s too much trouble and even with a busy schedules Sarah’s re-worked the programme at short notice to accomodate my last minute booking. Flight schedule Pro and the iPhone app makes things just so easy.

The aircraft are well maintained and reliable, with G-EHAZ (a Warrior III) being my favourite! I’ve not experienced any flight training with Freedom as I came with my PPL/night rating when I joined but often hear Dave and Glenn briefing/debriefing students in a friendly/relaxed manner with lots of sound and practical advice on hand for those like me with experience from elsewhere.

Pub evenings, summer BBQ’s, fly outs etc provide an excellent social scene which really helps with meeting the other club members and sharing experiences – there’s a nice mix of pilots with lots of younger people – Sarah’s expertise in using social media to help people keep up to date/informed as well as part of a friendly club environment has contributed towards this I’m sure.

I’d happily recommend Freedom Aviation Ltd and glad they’re number one on here- it’s a well deserved achievement!

I joined Freedom just under a year ago, a couple of months before my sixteenth birthday. Since then i have clocked up 38 hours, and am ready for my QXC. And then hope to pass my skills test on my 17th birthday. I have been taught by both Glenn and Dave, who I have no benchmark to compare them too, but they have both been amazing. I have always felt extremely comfortable flying with them, as they teach in a professional and relaxed manor. The lessons are always structured around the student, with future planning always kept in mind. I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of flying with Freedom. It was my dad that chose Freedom Aviation, he has over 30 years experience in aviation, with over 16,000 hours and he chose Freedom, since then he has told me how lucky I am to be flying with such an organised, friendly and professional club, stating that it has ranked higher than all other flying clubs he has been in.

Sarah and Rene, who are behind the scenes and run the logistics of the club are extremely friendly who always make an effort to make you feel welcome, as well as introducing you to all of the other students, giving Freedom it’s great atmosphere. I often find myself waiting in the office for my parents to pick me up, and I always feel welcome.

I have completed 5 days of ground school, with another 2 booked. These have been fantastic in terms of learning theory and passing the exams but also it gives the chance to meet other students. The ground school, like the flying lessons themselves, were conducted in a professional but relaxed manor. I have been taught by both Bob and Ben. Every ground school i have attended i have passed with ‘flying colours’ along with the students taking the exams.

Freedom takes the flying and social side to another level with their expeditions and social events. I believe there is one big international expedition a year, and 3 to 4 overnight /weekend expeditions. I have not yet been, due to lack of experience and flight hours, however this is not due to Freedom rules, I do again believe that students are welcome to join the expeditions. I do plan to join Freedom on their expeditions once i have got my PPL. On another note, I have been to the Team Freedom social events of the past year, the spot landing competition and the Christmas Party. Both have been an excellent and had a great club environment and feel to them.

To conclude then, Team Freedom is exceptionally well organised with a welcoming, friendly environment. I would strongly recommend Freedom to anybody but especially to young people, due to the high number of young pilots at Team Freedom.

I’m what’s known as a “Sunday pilot”, no other ratings, I just to fly for fun, but in recent years the fun side if it’s was dwindling, so I changed from Gloucetershire to Freedom Aviation, and “F in Fun” has returned.
I can’t fault Freedom, for their friendly service, and allround value for money. Infact I’m so smitten by their clear and simple pricing I’m tempted to do other training, IE night rating or tail wheel. Many thanks to those peeps, for injecting F back in.

It’s early days for a raw beginner, but that brings a different perspective judging by many of the posts from more experienced aviators. What I look for as I set out on a daunting journey, is certainty and security. FA is smartly run in every sense, the instruction is demonstrably professional and the aircraft are well-maintained. Those characteristics provide what I want from a flying school. And what’s more, although it’s challenging, it’s fun and I look forward eagerly to every visit. I have no benchmark against which to judge FA but I would not let that get in the way of giving them top marks for a good start. Now keep it up!

I have been a member of 4 flying clubs over the last 14 years and Freedom Aviation are head and shoulders above any of the others. All the aircraft are maintained to the highest possible standard and everything always works. In the past with other clubs having a landing light not working or a NAV aid U/S wasn’t unusual, at Freedom Aviation it’s exactly the opposite. The standard of training aircraft is by far the best I have ever seen. I have been with Freedom for two years and haven’t looked back. The instruction is first class. Being taught by instructors who have thousands of hours can be intimidating, and in the past with other clubs they seemed to enjoy making me feel inadequate and lacking, with Dave and crew they are very positive and understanding. They teach in a calm and reassuring manner, that quickly builds confidence. Sarah is incredibly efficient and helpful on the admin side, helping with everything from booking aircraft to licence revalidations. The whole team are basically really nice people who have first class aircraft in a great location.

As a ‘middle aged’ newbie with an otherwise full eclectic lifestyle I was made very welcome even after explaining that I would like to learn to fly in a protracted time frame that suited my circumstances with safety a paramount consideration.
I was recommended by a friend who was already a qualified pilot – so where else do you start ?
My Instructor is Glen who, despite his younger years, take safety as a first priority and immediately gained my confidence – total confidence actually.
Three exams passed at 100% and just 5 1/2 hours flying has given me a solid foundation – and I have learned that it is not a map, it is a ‘chart’.

I joined Freedom Aviation a year ago after becoming ever more frustrated with the Tomahawk group I was in; slow maintenance and an increasing amount of downtime with one aircraft and so many members meant it was becoming ever more difficult to book a slot to fly!

Freedom Aviation has been the perfect solution for me. Aside from everyone being so professional, fun and friendly, the club logistics are managed excellently to ensure there is always an aircraft available to fly and they’re all maintained to an outstanding level.

Dave is a skilled pilot and somebody who knows how to get the best out of others, passing his knowledge and experience on in the process. Sarah was nothing but excellent with planning the trip and managed a very fluid schedule like a true professional.

New to flying this year I researched a few different schools and dabbled with microlights to begin with. Not feeling to confident in them I decided to go for the full PPL. Asking some experienced pilots I was told by all, don’t go anywhere other than Freedom, they weren’t wrong. I am now loving my flying and it’s all down to the freedom team. The instructors are calm, thoughtful and very knowledgable filling you with confidence. The planes are just about the best you will ever find, well maintained and in tip top condition. Then Sarah brilliantly pulls the whole thing together keeping you informed of what’s going on every day via different mediums such as facebook etc. this all adds up to making you feel as though you are part of a busy club that welcomes new people, quite an excellent set up.

Even before I began here the services offered online and the help were tremendous by Sarah herself, having been recommended by a current trainee pilot I gave this club a shot.

Arriving on site to a lovely clean hangar with a clean and what looked brand new PA28 sitting outside the doors I was surprised by how nice the airport, hangars and aircraft were.

I met Sarah and what a lovely person she is, very well organised, friendly and a big help. Glen was my instructor and you really can’t fault him, a nice guy with a relaxed yet brisk outlook on flying, everything you would want out of an instructor,

Quality of the hangar, aircraft and airport: 10/10
People keeping this amazing school running: 1000/10

Before starting my PPL I did a lot of research on flying clubs and Freedom Aviation came out top of my list and the research was spot on.

This is a wonderful friendly flying club with very well maintained PA28’s which Dave J is always polishing between flights. Before each lesson I get a detailed briefing with no time pressure and again after each flight a good debrief and plans for the next lesson. Each lesson is tailored to your needs and your pace of learning and the instruction is absolutely first class.

The club has bases at both Kemble (Cotswold Airport) and Oaksey Park. At Kemble you can experience flying from a busy airport with a real variety of aircraft, I have landed in front of a 747 and waited to line up whilst a spitfire was doing touch and go’s, where else could you experience that? In contrast, Oaksey Park, is a beautiful grass strip with the feel of being back in 1930’s. This is also where the club holds its ground school. Great instruction in a relaxed atmosphere with the chance to meet fellow students makes study for the exams a pleasure, and not a chore.

I really cannot rate Freedom Aviation highly enough – if you are looking to start your PPL then this club should be top of your list.

Thank you to Dave, Glenn, Bob and Sarah for creating such a great club to learn and fly in.

    Its difficult to put into words a description worthy of Freedom aviation. Aside from the brilliant, efficient, safe, amusing, intelligent skills of the flights instructors (Glen, a legend as is John W), being part of a club that really makes flying fun, is something I’ve not experienced at any other flight school (and I’ve been to a few!). Their approach to flying is that it should be a sport / hobby that people can enjoy from start to finish, and without doubt they achieve this. True acclaim came when my seven year old son asked not when he could start flying, but ‘when can i join Dave and Sarah’s club’!!     Having now completed my tail wheel training with Freedom and being close to completing the basic aerobatic course it’s timely that I add a review of my experiences so far;

I’ve been flying with Freedom since the club opened and also used the Freedom aircraft with another club before moving to Freedom. I’ve been a pilot since 2008 and initially trained in South Africa and also other schools around the UK. My training with Freedom is simply the best I’ve had and I can’t think of a single criticism. The CFI (Dave) is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic instructor and seems to heavy on the good things you’re doing, to make you feel good, and then makes suggestions on areas that need polish. It works for me and I always feel my lessons have made me feel good about the things I did correctly but also areas that I can think about and get better for next time. Great explanations and excellent practical demonstrations are always part if the lessons and I feel very confident with Dave that I’m getting my monies worth.

The aircraft are always tip top and I’ve never had a breakdown or any other reason to stop flying. Great comms from Sarah and Dave mean I always know what’s going on and can plan accordingly. It’s refreshing to see real effort and passion from the owners who are making Freedom one of the top schools. Well done, keep up the good work.

Freedom Aviation is the most professional, well organised and friendliest club I have ever come across. Having just completed ATPL ground school I needed to complete my CPL Qualifying Cross Counrty and Night Rating before starting the CPL training. One call to Sarah Letheren and we had a plan sorted.

Zero Vis called off the first flight but got to meet with the rest of the team and instantly felt at home! Re-planned we tried again and everything went perfectly. Dave Jelly is a fantastic instructor and I was always learning something new. Night Ratings take place at Oxford Airport, its central location and great facilities make it ideal for instruction and thankfully good weather and fab instruction meant I completed the course over two consecutive nights.

I’ve flown Freedom aircraft for nearly two years now and have never come close to finding anything criticisable about how this brilliant club operates. When they leased aircraft to my previous flying club they were always helpful, and when I made inevitable clerical errors with tech logs or documentation they were quick to assist in a helpful and professional manner, never condescending. Since joining their flying club I’ve felt more like a member of an extended family than a customer and I would recommend Freedom to anyone wishing for causal aircraft hire all the way to further training or even a full PPL. For those looking for more than just local flying, the guys and girls at Freedom are always thinking up new ideas for trips to France, Norway etc and the monthly pub nights are great! Freedom aviation is a fantastic flying school, with very friendly and accommodating instructors and ground staff. Every pilot/student is made to feel a part of the Freedom family.

Aside from the excellent training, they offer lots of fly-outs to European destinations, which keeps the interest high for post-PPL pilots. I have done so much more with Freedom than I thought would be possible in the 18 months since gaining my licence.

The best thing about the school is the five wonderfully maintained aircraft, all fitted with GPS, available from two different sites; pilots have the option of flying from grass or a hard runway.

Anyone thinking of getting a PPL should look no further. Just awesome!

A well run club and school with friendly people and well kept aircraft.
Instructors are professional and really know there stuff. Also keen to point out skills and techniques above PPL level rather than just making it.

Also the best PA 28 pricing I have seen!

Kemble has great facilities and a nice cafe too.

What can I say, where do I start…! Freedom is a friendly and professionally ran flying school.

The instructors are very professional and of high quality but also have the right balance between making you feel relaxed but at the same time want the best out of you as a pilot.

I actually started my PPL at another flying school, however I found Freedom and made the move, it was the best decision of my flying career so far!
The aircraft are superbly maintained, apart from the usual 50 hour and annual flight inspections, any issues are just sorted straight away so the whole fleet is online the whole time. It really shows how much money the company put back into the fleet to ensure we have superb aircraft to fly at all times.

I felt like I was part of the family as soon as I joined, even more so on the many foreign trips we go on as a club every couple of months.

The company is ran by a much younger generation of people and instructors so it feels very fresh, no old boys telling you how it was done in there day!!

    5 Stars!!

If you know flying schools/clubs you’ll know what makes the difference! Freedom EARN five stars because the effort/money they put into maintaining their acft and the effort they put into making you feel welcome straight off. Read the reviews and you’ll see that they have some really nice rental PA28s. If, like me you have rented for many years, you know how nice it is to see no ‘INOP’ stickers, all the number digits on the NAV/COM light up, and a seat rail that stays put!

Thanks Dave J for a great ‘check ride’, looking forward to spending many more hours in Freedom acft.

I’ve just renewed my SEP at Freedom aviation after a couple of refresher flights with Dave, one of the instructors, he also runs the school with his partner Sarah. I chose Freedom as I had flown with Dave before elsewhere and I find his instructional technique very easy to get along with and I always learn a new and improved way of doing something with him, which is great for personal progression. He and Sarah, as well as the few other members of the club who I have briefly met have all made me feel very welcome. I’ve literally only been in the office a handful of times and everyone knows my name.

I have flown with one of the other instructors, Bob who is very experienced and also very friendly, I look forward to meeting Ben at some point, who is an instructor I’ve not flown with but heard nothing but good things about.

Thanks guys for making my transition to a new club, where I didn’t know anyone, a stress free relaxing one!

Freedom Aviation are very customer focused and seem to have the natural ability to make the flying extremely enjoyable while at the same time ensuring high quality tuition. I have always been made to feel very welcome and nothing is ever a hassle for them as I have dipped my toes into the world of flying. You’re always made to feel like one of the team from day one, post skills test and on the trips away.

As I try to talk friends into taking up flying, Freedom Avaiation are the direction that I will always point them in!

Keep up the good work and Sarah & Dave.

They always make you feel welcome, relaxed and can always have a laugh.
The planes they have are always well maintained, comfy and everything is done to a high professional standard!
Have always used Davey as an instructor, due also to his professional but relaxed approach , and Sarah who will always accommodate your needs, whenever possible!
Will never change flying clubs, and can only thank everyone at freedom aviation for all their help.

After already gaining my PPL and trying another few schools across the UK in between, I joined Freedom Aviation to complete my Night Rating in Mar 13. I can honestly say that Freedom Aviation is head and shoulders above other flying schools I have flown with. The owners understand the importance of pristine aircraft which include the latest avionics. Their instructors offer top-notch tuition and are highly knowledgeable, professional and always put their students first. As others have commented, the flying school community is extremely friendly and you will be made to feel welcome on regular flyouts organised by the school. I would highly recommend Freedom Aviation to all – Keep up the good work guys!

I know Freedom Aviation originally through general daily business, but when it came to needing to hour build; Sarah and Dave were very helpful and flexible with the options available, working around my schedule.

I ended up doing 45 hours with Dave as a safety pilot within 1 week, to meet the requirements for the issue of a Frozen ATPL (Airline Pilot Licence), having recently completed my ME/CPL/IR with another provider at Shoreham, my local airport.

Dave is very knowledgeable and has many years of flying experience with a pleasant cheerful character. It was great working with him during my flying, working as a team, which was great preparation for my Multi-Crew Course immediately after this hour building. We flew all around the UK in all types of airspace, weather and terrain.

The aircraft are very well maintained to an excellent standard. I’ve been flying since year 2000 and I can say they have some of the best PA28’s I’ve ever seen and used.

They take pride in maintaining high standards and ensuring you have a safe aircraft to fly.

They are based at Oaksey Park (grass runway) and also Kemble (tarmac runway), great for that extra flexibility one needs with the British weather.

If you are either wishing to learn to fly or just wish to hire an aircraft, I recommend you give them a call.

I have just started my PPL training, I’ve had a few lessons with various flight schools and wanted to make sure I was fully comfortable with a school before fully committing.

Freedom Aviation was by far the most welcoming, I feel the support is there to learn quickly if I want to, alternatively have a bit of fun learning slowly with some exciting day/weekend trips without as much pressure. I’ve had a great time so far including a fantastic overnight trip to France where I got to fly over the channel! If friends and family ask I will certainly recommend Freedom Aviation.

Freedom are great in the air and on the ground. Instructors Dave and Ben take lessons out of the aircraft and ensure the pre- and post-flight briefings are properly done.

Put that with the very relaxed and informal social atmosphere, the choice of venues (Kemble or Oaksey Park) and real attention to make the process interesting and fun and you have a truly great school.

Group trips away are a big bonus too, with every student being made to feel like a part of the clan from day one.
