I’ve been a member of Sherburn Aeroclub for about 6 years now and have gained my PPL, instrument rating and night flying certifications with an excellent team of instructors and Club support people. I find the club very progressive, especially over the past year. They listen to the members and make changes to keep improving an already top notch club in terms of what they offer, the on site facilities, the club fly outs and even how the club itself is run. Highly recommended. Give them a go!

Am a little unconfident at times, and tried more formal schools, but Sherburn got me through my flight test and spent a happy 2 years flying.
Missed a year so having again to take a few lessons and check flight. Have to say the instructors are great, the ground staff friendly and funny at times….. Lovely club type atmosphere.
Hope to pass again early in new year, so can take to the sky alone again.
Cannot say or thank the staff and instructors enough ….. I started flying in my 50’s so have fulfilled a life’s ambition….. Thanks to Sherburn.

At the ripe old age of 56 I am about to start learning to fly at this really friendly club. After being a social member of the club since the summer of 2015 I have now converted my membership to a flying member. After my wife bought me a 1 hour trial flight as a birthday present back in October, we had the flight in a PA28 Warrior 4 seater G-DODB along with our fantastic instructor Jan Coster. She really made the experience very enjoyable for us and allowed me to take the controls for much of the flight. The club has a wide range of training aircraft available for student pilots to learn their skills on including both 2 and 4 seaters. This is a very well organised and well run organisation with many full time staff and flying instructors employed all year around and you are always assured of a friendly welcome from the very efficient FlightDesk staff. Digbys Restaurant provides everything from teas, coffees, sandwiches, cakes, burgers, chips etc. through to 3 course Sunday lunches in its comfortably equipped lounge. If you have any interest in general aviation and would like to experience the thrill of flying in any of its various forms, this is definitely the place to enjoy it at…you wont regret it! A recently added aviation themed childrens play area and the only the only airfield based FlightStore Pilots supplies shop only add to the extensive facilities Sherburn Aero Club offers its members and visitors. The flying club is also home to many privately owned aircraft who are housed in its extensive range of hangers and the facilities available also attract many visiting aircraft and pilots so there is always lots going on. My wife and I love visiting this airfield, it has a lovely chilled atmosphere and many of the guys there have become friends.

Having started my flight training with this fantastic club I have not looked back since. The facilities have improved majorly over the past year and it is a wonderful place for not only pilots and aviation lovers but for the community, visitors and aspiring aviators. The instructors are very friendly and instill confidence to all who use the club. In my opinion, having visited many flying clubs and airfields, Sherburn is by far the best I have had the pleasure of using! Thank you to all the team who make spending my time there memorable and Just a pleasure to be part of!

I learnt to fly at here, always found every single person every helpful and professional. There facilities are brilliant and with the website getting a much needed overhaul you can’t fault them. Although I don’t fly at the moment, due to financial restraints, soon as ‘she’s’ paid off, I’ll be sure to go back and get my license up to date.
If you are ever considering taking up flying, be sure to try out Sherburn, reasonably priced, with great well serviced aircraft, and fantastic instructors.

Now in my 4th year as a member of Sherburn Aero Club and I cannot imagine using any other club as my base to fly from. Each and every instructor provide excellent training and support. The non flying facilities get better and better as each day goes by, great for my family whilst I am out and about in the air. The fleet of aircraft are great to fly and well equiped and are constantly being updated and kept upto standard. Training facilities are fantastic with a fantastic simulator when you struggle to get airborne. A great set of runways to fly from favouring all wind directions so you have a better chance of being able to fly when those pesky heavy crosswinds can close a single runway airfield. A very welcoming flightdesk to answer all your questions and needs….Also now we have a very active social club which gets us all together to relax after a hard days flying. The club very kindly puts on a number of events throughout the year from kids xmas parties to a no holds barred airshow for its members, plus not forgetting the plethora of charity events to raise mch needed funds for local charities. Sherburn now has its very own flightstore so you should never be short of flying goodies. And finally, the people, since joining, I have met some great people, very friendly and many offers of trips out and jumping in that spare seat when I cannot personally fly. It really does have everything you need. Come on board and give it a try, you won’t be disapointed.

A superb club with excellent facilities for pilots and none pilots alike and their families. It is friendly, welcoming and warm in the winter, cool in the summer. The ground crew look and care for the aircraft and when not outside, are found in working on the buildings and carrying out the maintenance that no one sees but keeps the club going so well. My partner has come over from flying gliders and now transferring his skills to power and is being encouraged to take his passion to a new level. He’s enjoying excellent night classes with experienced instructors and this club goes from strength to strength. many thanks.

Together with the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund I operate Tiger Moth Squadron from Sherburn which is flight experience organisation which contributes to the work of the RAFBF. Sherburn club have been encouraging and supportive of what we have done and I would commend our club to anyone wanting to learn to fly, hanger their aircraft or just a social member. Our new clubhouse is very cool and do superb coffee too!

Lots of staff, other pilots and a very nice atmosphere. The clubhouse is open daily and serves great food. I would recommend a trip there if you haven’t already been.

After having a trial flight at Sherburn I was hooked. They’ve got fantastic instructors, a super friendly team, great facilities (bacon butty & freshly ground espresso for me), loads of events, and I always come away with a huge grin on my face. I’m so lucky to live near by, but I’d certainly travel to be a part of the club.

Top notch flying club. I had a microlight (group D) licence at the time and felt it was an opportune moment to learn group A. I searched far and wide for a good deal with quality as the prime consideration. Spent quite some time on this as I knew it would not be a minor decision. Sherburn kept coming out top on most points. The only negative was manoeuvring with airline traffic, something that could be addressed later. The CFI was Sqn Ldr Jacko Jackson (Ex BBMF Lancaster) at the time. As such, the club had RAF style and quality. The other deciding factor was availability of real short field training. You do not always have a mile or so of runway under you when an engine fails. The airfield was close to RAF Church Fenton MATZ and the radio calls to RAF bases became second nature, something the ‘other’ sites lacked. The training was second to none. A number of my friends trained at other sites at the same time and were dismayed at the difference in clubs. Unfortunately they were tied to their course as they had to commit in order to make it economical.. Superb facilities and a genuine friendly club. The instructors knew when to leave you and when to take control. As a result of this, training was fast and efficient. Post training, the club supported the students with trips and further instruction in advanced techniques. The social side was great too. The club has a history and a reputation to be proud of. Highly recommended. Enjoy it!

“The small club with a heart the size of Yorkshire. With a excellent selection of training and touring aircraft, there is something here for everyone and in a club that looks after everyone in warm and comfortable surroundings situated in the heart of the county. For those with children and those visiting, a wonderful and extensive safe play area based on an airplane and control tower as well as a bar for those not flying. Comfortable seating with excellent views. Hot food and drinks made to order in wonderful restaurant keep you fuelled, as the ground crews expertly and swiftly refuel the aircraft and helicopters and take such good care of them to ensure they always look their best. A friendly and helpful club that goes from strength to strength with excellent instructors who want you to progress and go forward in your life in aviation. Everyone is welcome and it is what makes the club grow and go from strength to strength. Long may it continue.

I started my NPPL training at a much bigger organisation, but soon found biggest isn’t always best. Disappointed and depressed, I chatted with some of the other trainees who suggested I try Sherburn Aero Club. So one Sunday afternoon, I visited Sherburn with my wife and we chatted with the CFI. He told us about the Club, showed us around and explained what they would do to take my training forward in the aim to get my licence.
I took the plunge and moved to Sherburn. Having reviewed my training records from the previous organisation, we went for a test flight to assess me, then I was told exactly what needed to be completed and I was kept informed as to what we’d train on next. I got my licence within just a few months of first visiting Sherburn.
Since then, I’ve never looked back. Sherburn is a Club and its members are friendly, helpful and great fun to be around. Staff are great and the whole atmosphere is welcoming. It’s more than a Club and we get visitors from near and far.
    Try it, you’ll like it!

“Similar to other pilots, I started my training with a Leeds based organisation but after only a couple of hours in the air (after possibly a dozen cancelled bookings) – I grew tired and looked for a different flying school.

A quick google brought me onto Sherburn Aero Club. A phone call later and I was on my way to “Yorkshire’s Premier Flying Club”. Sherburn caters for everyone and every aspect of flight training. We have a superb set of instructors who each individually make it their mission to gel with the member in the cockpit and get the most our of each sortie. Comprehensive ground school is catered for, as are other rating with our ATO associated with the club. What’s more, they do everything from NPPL, PPL, IMC, Night, MEP, MEIR, CPL, FI(R)! 3 grass and a single tarmac runway are all licensed and the facilities are second to none.

Sherburn is a members club and as such, members can enjoy a VAT-free environment on their flight training and aircraft hire, making Sherburn one of the most competitively priced flying organisations in the country. The ground staff and flight desk team are incredibly helpful and friendly – and the food in the cafe is pretty decent too. What’s not to like?!”

I started training at LBA, but got WX off so often I moved to Sherburn.
I was able to choose between C150 and PA28 back then and spent many years flying once a month before I passed the skills test and gained a LAPL.
Constant support from the instructors, friendly licensed pilots and the cafe every visitor praises makes it so much better than the commercially oriented LBA
Regular away days (L2K, Isle of Man and jersey so far this summer) means you can share a getaway and extend your experience with other club members and IMC pilots..
Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sherburn Aero Club offers fantastic opportunities for the whole spectrum of pilots.
I got my PPL here several years ago and all the instructors were enthusiastic and professional. With 1 tarmac and 2 grass runways there were not many flights cancelled due to wind during my training. I went on to to do my night rating and most of my IMC rating here. You can indeed continue and complete the CPL and MEIR here if you wish, not forgetting aerobatics courses and even pilots medicals that are all catered for.
It is situated in uncontrolled airspace but close enough to lots of class D so you really do get the best of both worlds. Plenty of aircraft and a great club atmosphere tops everything off nicely along with a helpful and friendly admin team at the desk.

I really cannot think of a better place to learn to fly than Sherburn Aero Club so pop in and have a look around, while you are there you can sample some of the great food at the Pilots Retreat cafe.
